I got this cd when I learned it had the song "Voices" on it. This incredible song was used most effectively in a very early episode of Miami Vice. An episode about the end of the notorious Calderone. It is a haunting song. One you can definitely drive and get pumped up to. It is hard to find good music like this anymore. As for the rest of the album, I considered it a nice bonus of well crafted songs. –By Chris Letempt, amazon.com
I ordered this album after hearing the songs on Miami Vice several years ago. The song In The Night was later redone by Ace Frehley of Kiss (the Russ Ballard Version is much better). The song Voices is just great. Play this one to your girlfriend when you can't figure our which personality you are talking to.–By A Customer, amazon.com
This was the one of the very few albums i listened to & loved every track. Here there is alot of pulsating rhythms & vigorous sounds from "In the night" & the fantastic "Woman like you" to the ecstatic "Two Silhouettes" finaly to the classic "Voices", with this album it does not get bad but better. Russ Ballard is a rock icon that didnt get due recognition, he even wrote a song which Ritchie Blackmore,in his heyday, recorded & released it in Rainbow's 1981 classic album "Difficult to cure", it was titled "I surrender". If anyone is interested in 80's rock, they will definitely enjoy this album, after 20 years since i fisrt heard it, the songs are still as invigorating as ever. –By S. Kader, amazon.com
I just recently re-discovered Russ Ballards music, and it has been a real treat to finially have this album once again. I took a few years break from the hard driving Rock and Roll sound that Russ delivers, but now this sounds better than ever. The songs that really speak to me on this one are "Your Time Is Gonna Come" and "Dream On", 2 great rock anthems that should be on everyone's lips, in my opinion. The sound is clear, crisp, precise, and evokative. Russ has a great voice, very distinctive, and this album sounds as great today as when I bought my 1st copy on vinyl. Miss this one at your peril. –By Joy Andis "Adastria", amazon.com
I have been a long admirer of Ballard's music style. My fav is "Voices" for anyone the came of age in the 80's it was rockin' break from the techno-culture…it was raw and real, back to basics Rock…a must have to round out that definitive 80's collection. –By Anissa L Roberts, amazon.com
I was first exposed to Russ Ballard by his song Voices on a local hard-rock station several years back. I rather enjoyed this track's sound and feel– you know, the whole duality of man, and goin' schizo and all that rot– and attempted to track down this particular cut on CD-Single (this was before I got into the whole MP3-Sharing-Over-The Internet thing). Following this vainglorious quest, I finally broke down and grabbed this double-album CD, all the while hoping that the one tune I wanted wasn't the only good song on it.
Fortunately, I found most of his other musical pieces rather enjoyable and relaxing, which is especially therapeutic after a long hard day of work. Now what kinda tunage is to be expected from this quasi-obscure artist, you ask? Well, except for Voices©, most of Ballard's tracks don't sound all that much different from the usual mid-80s combo-Pop-and-Hard-Rock tunes that you'd've heard on rock radio back in the day. Basically, if you dig the works of Journey™, The Cars™, Toto™, or Foreigner™, you'll likely enjoy Russ Ballard's work as well. And if you don't– well, I guess you'd best listen to something else… –By Zagnorch, amazon.com
The first time I heard this song was on an episode of Miami Vice. Tubbs and Crockett were streaming to an island in a power boat of some kind after some bad dude. The song captured me. It was the the most break-taking form of rock I had heard in years. The beat - Drums, guitars, and the orchestra, were all placed with wonder in my mind. Several weeks after that I went to a local record store ,and of course purchased the cassette. I enjoyed many miles of listening to Russ Ballard, and that song,"Voices".Unfortunately, as time went on,and the kids grew older, the cassette was either lost or left outside like so many other things my kids drug out from the house. Of course they didnt know any better. The song now, after many years is still as refreshing as always. It is a time classic. This song will make you press the gas pedal down to the floor of your,what-ever you are driving, and become a vice officer in Miami. (Just dont let the cops catch ya ) Voices has a beat all of its own,and Russ Ballard has a voice that capitalizes that song in a way no other artist can. It is one of a kind. Buy it, play it,jam with it. –By rkc03
I had both these albums on cassette when they were released in the mid 80's and had worn them out. Russ Ballard, the former Argent front man can certainly "hold his head up" with these two albums. A call it a mix of rock meets pop, very easy to listen to. Fantastic guitar and great drum perfectlty meet with Ballard's strong vocals. Just listen to Amazon's samples for a taste of what the rest of the songs are like. Honestly, there is not one bad song on this CD. The first 8 songs are from his self titled 1984 LP. My favories are Voices, Two Silhouettes, I can't hear you no more and Playing with fire. Then the last 8 tracks are from 1985's "The Fire Still Burns". My picks are Once a Rebel, Hey Bernadette, Searching and the Fire Still Burns. A special mention for the magnificent Time & Your Time is Gonna Come. Although seperate songs they are linked, like a mini epic. To have these on CD is a dream come true, but great for the budget that both are on one CD. I have wanted these for so long. As seperate CD's you would have to pay 3 times as much as they are imports. Thanks Amazon. – By A Customer, amazon.com

British singer/songwriter Russ Ballard, born in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, was the lead singer of Argent, for whom he wrote the hit "God Gave Rock and Roll to You." He has balanced a solo career with a songwriting career, the latter producing such hits as Three Dog Night's "Liar" and Hot Chocolate's "So You Win Again." His only U.S. singles chart entry under his own name is "On the Rebound," which hit number 58 in 1980. –Biography by William Ruhlmann
Russ Ballard's eponymous 1984 album and its sequel, The Fire Still Burns, were reissued on a single disc by Renaissance Records in 1996. Both albums are fairly spotty, but they have enough highlights to make this worthwhile for dedicated fans of Ballard or his former band Argent.Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Career
Ballard was initially a guitarist with Buster Meikle & The Day Breakers in 1961, together with Roy Ballard, Russ's older brother on piano and Bob Henrit on drums. After a stint with The Roulettes, backing Adam Faith, he then went on to join Unit 4 + 2 in the early 1960s, before becoming the lead singer and guitarist of Argent, writing their hit "God Gave Rock and Roll to You",[1] which would later be covered by both Petra and Kiss.
In 1972, Ballard performed on Colin Blunstone's album Ennismore, which was produced by Chris White. Ballard also wrote the hit single, "I Don't Believe in Miracles", which featured on that album.
He left Argent in 1973 and pursued a solo and songwriting career. He wrote such hits as Three Dog Night's "Liar",[1] Hot Chocolate's 1977 UK chart topper "So You Win Again",[2] and Rainbow's "Since You Been Gone" (also featured on Ballard's second solo album Winning) and "I Surrender". As a solo artist, Ballard charted once on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, when "On the Rebound" reached #58 in 1980.[1] Progressive rock band Uriah Heep covered "On the Rebound" in 1982 on their album, Abominog.
Ballard also wrote and performed on Roger Daltrey's first two solo albums - Daltrey (1973) and Ride a Rock Horse (1975).
British pop band Hello recorded Ballard's "New York Groove" in 1975, reaching #7 in Germany and #9 in the UK.[3]
Ballard also wrote the #17, 1981 hit for Santana, called "Winning", which appeared on their album entitled Zebop! and had previously been released by Ballard himself on his second solo album.
Ballard wrote and produced "You Can Do Magic" for the group America. The single climbed to #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in October 1982, and helped resurrect the band's career. The following year, America brought in Ballard to produce their follow-up album, Your Move. One of its tracks, "The Border", which was co-written by Ballard with Dewey Bunnell, reached #33 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Borrowing from The Cure's Simon Gallup's 1981 "Other Voices" bass riff,[original research?] Ballard wrote ABBA singer Anni-Frid Lyngstad's 1982 solo hit: "I Know There's Something Going On" (which was produced and featured drums played by Phil Collins). The track reached #13 on the Billboard Hot 100. He also penned "Can't Shake Loose" for fellow ABBA former member, Agnetha Fältskog, which peaked at #29 in the same listings.
His song "Voices" - from the album Russ Ballard - was featured on the Miami Vice episode entitled "Calderone's Return: Part 2 - Calderone's Demise", which aired on 26 October 1984. The song was a brief hit on rock radio stations, peaking at #15 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. However, "Voices" stalled below the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #110. The song "In The Night" (also from the Russ Ballard album), was also featured in Miami Vice, and included in the episode entitled "Calderone's Return: Part 1 - The Hit List". The show also featured "Your Time Is Gonna Come" by Ballard.
"The Fire Still Burns", the title track of his 1985 album attained #15 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.[4]
In 1991 the song he co-wrote with John Waite and Jonathan Cain, "So This Is Eden", appeared on Bad English's album, Backlash.
Ballard has also written and produced for Elkie Brooks, and more recently, acting as a talent scout, he "discovered" Lauren Harris.

Although audiochecker says this source is MPEG (lossy), this source is LOSSLESS, the rip was made from SilverCD. Anyway, everybody knows these kind of softwares are NOT 100% accurate.
So, below is the spectral view and frequency analysis made with EAC.
And for those who don't know how to read these graphics, I also attached a sticker on the SilverCD saying: "gonzalo76/AvaxHome/SilverCD/LOSSLESS"
