Reviews

For whatever reason, there is no review available for this one. Rubinstein/Fournier/Szeryng is the 2nd Million-Dollar-Trio of which the great pianist was a member. Earlier in his career, he had teamed up with Heifetz and Feuermann, and the results can be described as legendary. Here, the results are hardly less convincing, but they strike as being more musical. Wisdom of age? Maybe, but Rubinstein's musical personality hasn't changed that much when it comes to chamber music. There is a greater sense of ensemble playing on these recordings than on the earlier ones, where Heifetz invariably took the lead too often. I wouldn't call any of the performances of on this disc the finest available, but the overall quality is outstanding.
