Brazilian Paulo Moura displays a number of talents on this new release. He's a tasteful saxophonist (alto and soprano) and clarinetist, ascending gracefully over fluid jazz-pop rhythms dabbed with Brazilian accents. He's also a gifted composer -- he wrote or co-wrote five of the 12 primarily instrumental pieces here, including "Guadeloupe" and "Tumbalele." Bass, drums, percussion, keyboards, acoustic and electric guitars provide the sonic landscapes over which Moura coasts and swoops. Though the rhythms occasionally perk up, most of this release evokes an elegant, late-night ambiance. ~ Roundup newsletter, All Music Guide
