Nice anecdote about the cover: the composer, who is also a film director and therefore quite interested in the visual aspects of a musical art product, found the soprano singer on this album, Christianne Stotijn, willing to cooperate with an idea of his. That implied she was expected to jump into the IJmeer (Lake IJ, near Amsterdam) wearing a white dress and her face made up in silver tones.
One suffers for art; this happened on a July morning in 2010, and the Netherlands weren’t having much of a Summer last year. The woman must have been cold.
For the title composition van der Aa used poetry from Emily Dickinson, Anne Carson en Rozalie Hirs.
