Believe it or not, but the idea for this project (concept album) already came to the mind of singer and composer Michael Ernst in 1983! He wanted to pack a certain number of songs he had written up to then into a concept dealing with the story of the sword Excalibur, King Arthur and Merlin, the magician. Back then it was meant as a showcase for Ernst as a talented artist, but things turned out differently and it would take much longer for Michael to realize his dream. To cut a long story short, there’s a period of no less than 16 years between the recording of the first demos at a small recording studio in Vienna at the beginning of 1984 and the landing of the finished disc on the desk of Point Music in August 2002.
As a matter of fact, this “Excalibur” is a brilliantly produced concept album, full of wonderful (yet poppy) compositions, sung by Michael Ernst and Chris Thompson, who is one of the best vocalists of all times.
