The group was founded in the late ’80s in Rome under the name of Alterego, thanks to the meeting of two young music bands members. On one hand, Marco Palma (guitars) and Paolo Perilli (bass and vocals) on the other Luciano Stendardi (piano) and Paolo Musolino (keyboards, acoustic guitars and vocals): the first two with a wealth of classic rock (Deep Purple, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, David Bowie) and the others close to the New Age and electronic mixed with hints of jazz fusion (Andreas Vollenweider, Pat Metheny, Brand-x, Vangelis). The different influences come together spontaneously in a musical style that seems to embrace the so-called new progressive rock, which at that time included representatives as Marillion, Twelfth Night, IQ, Pendragon and italian bands as Ezra Winston and Leviathan.
As Alterego, they were among the first italian bands to take advantage of the multimedia web appearing in 1998 on the 1.0 version of mp3.com: the truly free music-sharing site ever where the single Bird Without Wings reached position number 10 in the ‘international progressive rock’ chart.
Subsequently, the organic underwent some change and also the activities of the group began to be discontinued because of personal projects and different musical experiences of its members.
After a few years they were again together in the original lineup helped by a new drummer (Andrea Schiappelli). Renamed Laviàntica (which is a contraction of the phrase “La Via Antica – The Old Way” to signify a retrospective stylistic choice) they started working on new material for their first official album.
The album was preceded from the youtube video of the song Nel vento (Into the Wind).
In spring 2013 they were among the finalists of the ‘Musiche Roma Festival’ contest, after being selected from more than 500 artists.
On September 2013, Clessidra was released as a self-produced album, available in CD format and digital download. It includes an intro, 7 pieces sung in italian and a mini suite as last track.
In September 2014, the band played as the opening act for the reunion concert of the Semiramis.
In 2015, the group starts working on the new album. In a functional way to the music, only instrumental, the band adds a new member, Daniele Sorrenti (also in Semiramis) to play flute and minimoog.
The new album drum parts are recorded by a session man, Marco Rovinelli, while waiting to find a substitute of Andrea Schiappelli, who decided to leave the group.
In 2017 the drummer Roberto Rossi joins Laviàntica.
The new album in the meantime is practically ready, and will be distributed worldwide by French label Musea Parallèle, specialized in progressive rock.
The new work, entitled “The Experience”, will be released in June 2018.
It will be a concept album related to the experience of an intelligent entity (Galbat), coming from another dimension, that comes into contact with the Earth and its inhabitants.
Being entirely instrumental, the melodic parts are covered from flute (the “voice” of Galbat), minimoog and electric guitar.
