Night Shade is a record with deep roots, exploring universal themes of internal strength, sensuality, light and dark, femininity and spirituality. It’s the sort of record that can only be written in solitude, inspired by the wild. It’s honest, personal and raw.

The album was created over a number of months with a masterful team made up of some of Lanie’s closest friends and collaborators, including Tim Whitten (engineer), and musicians Sarah Belkner (whirlitzer, rhodes and backing vocals), Billie McCarthy (backing vocals), Aidan Roberts (guitar), Tim Keegan (electric bass), Paul Derricott (drums and percussion), Matt Keegan (saxophone) and Bruce Reid (pedal steel, ban-sitar). Night Shade was co-produced by Lanie and her partner Jez Mead (also contributing guitar and trumpet to the album), whom she credits as being integral to the whole vision.

In many ways Night Shade is an obvious departure in sound and style from ‘To The Horses’ and for Lanie, it’s a welcome and necessary change in direction. Documenting Lanie’s personal and artistic journey, Night Shade marks a transition in her life, a time of bravery, adventure, honesty and inner growth. It’s the record she really wanted to make and it’s the record she really wants you to hear.

CELESTE was first single taken from the album and was recorded in the intimate surroundings of the legendary Mangrove Studios. Whilst recently on a trip to Peru, Lanie and her friends took a day out to capture some absolutely breathtaking scenery which features heavily in her video for ‘Celeste’. In Lanie’s own words: “Celeste is ‘the one who knows’, the best self – always guiding from the unseen, in tune with the magic of everyday existence, unbound by limitations or self-doubt”

Lanie’s new single NO SOUND is the 2nd cut off the album and was one of the first tracks she penned for her new record with guitarist Aidan Roberts whilst on tour with Brian Setzer. With an irresistible groove more reminiscent of Lanie’s certified gold debut To The Horses, the instrumentation and story is very much home on Night Shade. In Lanie’s own words “I was just beginning to learn meditation and learning to have observation of thoughts and feelings in an objective way for the first time in my life. It was a taking back of my own power and trusting my own instincts”.
