Chillout, Lounge, Downtempo, Electronic
Once upon a time, Ibiza was a spiritual and magical place. Every sunset, people gathered at Jose Padilla's ornately-decorated little beach-side bar to be hypnotised by his unique sunset DJ mix, staring dreamily out to sea. The first Café Del Mar album encapsulates this mystical experience. Café del Mar is a bar located in San Antonio, Ibiza, just to the west of the West End. It is a popular summer tourist destination, noted for its view of the local sunset. Café del Mar is the original Ibizan “sunset bar”, opened by Ramón Guiral, Carlos Andrea, and José Les in 1978. The Café del Mar releases compilation albums with tracks selected by the bar’s own DJs. The music selection is intended to induce the mood that is experienced watching a sunset. The tracks are described as ambient, easy listening music. Music lovers can always tell the summer's here because the market gets bombarded by a wealth of 'chill out'compilations but none so esteemed as the Café Del Mar series. One the first ever "Balearic" comps to emerge into the dance market, it's imaginative and considered song selections have ensured it has remained one of the finest too. Conjuring up the mood of Ibiza's more gentle side beautifully, the series features enigmatic combinations of downtempo beats, gorgeous guitar strums, wistful flute and lush strings.
