Iko Chérie - Dreaming On (2015)

Born in Bordeaux, Marie Merlet was studying film and presenting a radio program on the radio station Nova Sauvagine, when she met Laetitia Sadier. At the time, Marie was playing with thousands of groups: a girl-group doing covers from the sixties, a Washington DC-styled punk group, and a few experimental electronic projects. But when the then-singer of STEREOLAB asked her to join MONADE and she started recording and touring with her, there was no turning back. She traded Bordeaux for London, where they continued the musical projects as the electronic duo ZOOEY or the sweet pop of LISBONNE. In 2013, she began recording songs on her own in her house in London, and the result is "Dreaming On"."Dreaming On" has unmistakable pop sensitivity and French origins (Francoise Hardy, France Gall, Les Parisiennes are unarguably influences here) but has the musical culture and baggage of an artist who has already played with so many styles. There are echoes of Brian Wilson and Richard Hawley, but also spacey lounge and Brazilian music. Laetitia Sadier makes a guest appearance on "Go Now!" With a voice that bears comparisons to Claudine Longet, Hope Sandoval and Blossom Dearie, this is an album full of magic and seduction.
