(1990), The Cross of Changes (1993), and Le Roi est mort, vive le Roi! (1996). These first studio albums are considered as very important and influential for the creation and popularity of newer bands and musical groups that follow similar styles, often called "Enigmatic Music". Enjoy the debut albums of a pioneer new age band that achieved an amazing worldwide popularity and changed the way of composing and creating albums.

Enigma Trilogy CD01: MCMXC a.D (1990) (40:15 | ~ 262 Mb & 113 Mb)

MCMXC a.D. ("1990" in Roman numerals followed by an abbreviation of "Anno Domini") is the first studio album from the electronic music group Enigma, headed by Michael Cretu. Recorded at A.R.T. Studios in Ibiza, it is one of the first albums to be recorded on a hard disk. Released in 1990 on Virgin Records, the album reached number one in 41 countries including the UK. It peaked at number 6 in the United States. The album spawned four singles: "Sadeness (Part I)", "Principles of Lust", "Mea Culpa (Part II)" and "The Rivers of Belief". "Sadeness (Part 1)" topped the UK singles charts and peaked in the US at number 5.

The album was named as one of the most important and influential albums of mainstream New Age in the 1990s. The album not only popularized the "Enigmatic" music style but also introduced some technical music production changes. With MCMXC a.D., Michael Cretu developed the technical features and intentions of sampling. Though samples were in use long before (introduced by such musicians as Jean-Michel Jarre, Klaus Schulze and others), Cretu built his own music around whole sequences of previously recorded parts. His method was not remixing and remodelling, but rather recontextualisation: changing a piece of music’s natural environment. This new method of composing and album creating process was mainly adopted by hip-hop artists, as well as electronic music producers. It was one of the first albums to be recorded directly to hard drive. MCMXC a.D. was one of the first steps in a series of developments which would eradicate the division between mainstream and underground culture.

Enigma Trilogy CD02: The cross of changes (1993) (44:13 | ~ 285 Mb & 104 Mb)

The most notable songs on the album are "Return to Innocence", which was released as a single and featured in several film soundtracks, "Age of Loneliness (Carly's Song)" which was written especially for the film Sliver and included on its soundtrack and "The Eyes of Truth" which was also used as the music on the trailer for film "The Matrix". The song "Out From the Deep" was the final song released from the album, although it was only available in a handful of territories. A more rock-infused sound is present in The Cross of Changes, and the Gregorian chants from the previous album were replaced with ethnic-style world chants.

With the second album Enigma clawed it's way even further into success, not least because of the very popular track Return to Innocence, though it was also this song that would cause the most problems for the release. It contains a chant that was later found to be owned by a tribe who sued and settled to receive part of the profit from sales. The Cross of Changes went on to sell millions of copies, won numerous platinum and gold awards around the world, and further cemented the status of Enigma as a music project many people could get behind.

Enigma Trilogy CD03: Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi! (1996) (45:38 | ~ 291 Mb & 107 Mb)

Released on 25 November 1996, the album reached to the top spot in Norway's top 40 charts and third in the whole of Europe. Two singles from the album, "Beyond the Invisible" and "T.N.T. for the Brain" were also released at around the same time of its parent album. A planned third single, "The Roundabout", was scrapped at the last minute for unclear reasons, even though a remix had already been created by DJ Quicksilver. This album continued Enigma's trend, giving it a slightly more modern, futuristic sound by combining the elements of Enigma's first album, MCMXC a.D., and their second album, The Cross of Changes. Michael Cretu, producer of the project, considered Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi! to be the child of the previous two albums, with the first being the father and the second being the mother, as indicated by the 19‑second track, "Third of its Kind".

Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi! was the third album released as part of Michael Cretu's Enigma project. It's style built on and extended the first two releases, offering a well-crafted album with mysterious sounds, original ideas, and philosophical lyrics. The title is French and translates to The King Is Dead, Long Live The King, foreshadowing some of the texts contained within. The most recognized song from this release was Beyond The Invisible, though Michael Cretu has stated that his favorite track on the album is actually Morphing Thru Time.

Outside of the music, Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi contained a very unique album design and inserts created by Johann Zambryski, which was subsequently nominated for best recording package at the Grammy awards. The third album, like it's two predecessors, sold millions of copies and won numerous gold and platinum awards, though it still did not manage to reach quite the same heights as either of them. Given the success, this is probably more of a testament to the enormous popularity of MCMXC a.D. and The Cross of Changes than anything else.
