Burzum was one of the very first Black Metal Bands (with Mayhem, Darkthrone, Immoral and Emperor). After "Venom" gave in the late 80s, with their album "Black Metal" the genre his name, a little group of norwegian musicians created their own rough sound of metal. The first real Black Metal Album was Darkthrone's "A Blaze In The Northern Sky", the second one was the selfetitled EP by Immortal and the third was the debut album of Burzum. Varg Vikernes (under the pseudonym "Count Grishnackh") - the only member of Burzum - developed with every Album his own typical style more and more - slower than the others ones and with a more intensive atmosphere.
Burzum was founded 1991 in Bergen, Norway and quickly became prominent within the early Norwegian black metal scene. During 1992 and 1993, Burzum recorded four albums; however, in 1993 Vikernes was convicted and imprisoned for the murder of guitarist Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth (member of Mayhem and head of the norwegian scene) and the arson of several churches. While imprisoned, Vikernes had recorded two albums in the dark ambient style.
