Craig has one of those wonderful, good tenor sax sounds that have been missing. He's a lyricist; he can play pretty, but he can also fire it up.' Betty Carter Craig Handy famously performed and recorded with many jazz stars including Betty Carter, Herbie Hancock, John Scofield and Dee Dee Bridgewater. He is a member of the jazz all star group The Cookers, touring globally with these. The album is a New Orleans take of the music related to late organist Jimmy Smith. The album features guest appearances by Wynton Marsalis and Dee Dee Bridgewater. The 2nd Line Smith band is a true live band and very exciting to watch and hear. Despite being a sought after sideman, Craig will tour 2nd Line Smith globally. From the time he arrived in New York at age 23 in 1986, saxophonist Craig Handy was acknowledged as a musician with big, burly tenor sound, sharp wit, and above all, individuality. Craig Handy will undoubtedly fulfill many more dreams, as he strives to contribute his own perfect choruses to jazz history.
