The only record of this British band was released in January 1969 by Pye Records and no doubt its one of the most interesting but also the most underrated progressive albums of an era. Their music is a typical example of late-psych/early-prog underground stuff, with tasty guitar work, nices flute and saxophone passages, occasional Hammond organ work, trippy vocals and swinging, but very powerfull rhythm section. It can be compared to early Jethro Tull (circa 1968), East Of Eden's debut LP and first two Family albums. Sadly, the lack of promotion and poor album sales brought an end to one of the most impressive bands of those times. A few years later vocalist/guitarist Rik Kenton played bass in Roxy Music on their classic ‘Virginia Plain’ single. This CD edition was mastered from the original vinyl.

Pioneers of Progressive Rock deserve more attention
This band is well-known to compilers of psych/prog box sets (the Ars Longa Vita Brevis, Cave of Clear Light, and Real Life Permanent Dreams box sets all included a different track from this album), but judging by the lack of reviews it seems to be less known amongst fans. I found this album to be far better than expected, some of the tracks with flute are reminiscent of early Jethro Tull, while others bring Velvett Fogg to mind. A gloomy atmosphere pervades the album, even on the blues tracks.

Surprisingly,very good progressive gem!
They were from Nottingham. The tracks has very inspirative arrangements which are fast and furious for some parts. The songs fusing elements of psychedelia, blues, jazz and prog rock.I'm so surprised with their sound imagination and ability. The band:Mike Wheat-bass,John Sanderson-tenor sax, flute, violin,Rick Kenton-guitar,keyboards and drums-Steve Harris.LP issued for Pye 1968' and CD(booklet)contain long story about the band.Like many CDs from Sanctuary catalogue, this one still hold the ground! This is a treasure!
