Originally issued in 1986 by Castle Communications "The singles 80-86" stands still like the ultimate Venom's compilation, where are mustered most of their 80s' non-album tracks, usually scattered on singles or EPs. "The singles 80-86" brings on the acid and fast heavy metal of the Venom's early years, the epoch with Cronos, Mantas & Abaddon, right before the band would pay for their sins, entering the decomposition and decadence. In only 40 minutes or so can be appreciated some of the most obscure, caustic and apocalyptic cuts of these real inventors of the thrash metal (along with Motorhead and some other), featuring the rough-disgraced vocals and groovy bass of Cronos, the badly recorded Mantas' riffage, and the martial and chaotic Abaddon's pace on drums; everything that once made of Venom that cult band from the northern England, one of the most relevant names of the NWOBHM, and one of the most influential bands in the extreme metal until the day of today, and all that is contained in this disc, in its most inspired and gracious essence. The delicious "Die hard", the nasty "Lady Lust", the strange "In league with Satan" or the frenetically decadent "Acid queen", all these pearls by the venomous ones are here, by this band which once was called Guillotine. "The singles 80-86" is one of the most enjoyable records from the least tidy angle of the 1980s' hard rock, there isn't a single minute of filler material in "The singles 80-86", also featuring other explosive standouts like "Bursting out", "Warhead", "Dead of the nite" or the spectacular "Manitou"; this selection is probably the most essential Venom release along with "Black metal".
