Fueled by the creative production savvy of Verdine White of Earth, Wind and Fire, this album had some impressive selections. The first release from this effort was the aggressively paced single "Come Go With Me." With a progressive rhythm track, energized vocals and a utopian lyric, the number was filled with zest. In spite of its 18-week run on the R&B charts, it only managed to peak at number 17. The second single was the Latin-flavored "Pasado." Likened to the Brothers Johnson, this midtempo number peaked at 65 after only a seven-week run on the charts. On some tracks there is a close resemblance to Earth, Wind & Fire – "One Day at a Time" and "Doin' the Do" fit that bill. The former, penned by White, has that classic "Reasons" rhythm and melody, while the latter has an aggressive rhythm track in the flow of "Getaway." The resemblance to Earth, Wind & Fire certainly doesn't negate the group's excellent performance. Overall, these Baltimore natives come with a nice blend of selections complemeted by the good production work of White.

Pockets was one of those bands that was supposed to become huge but never did. When Pockets signed with Columbia in 1977, the Baltimore band's supporters insisted that it was destined to become "the next Earth, Wind & Fire." But commercially, Pockets didn't live up to the hype; its biggest hit was the number 17 R&B single "Come Go With Me." Nonetheless, Pockets' material was generally decent and occasionally excellent. Pockets' second album Take It on Up isn't as strong as its predecessor Come Go with Me, but it's still enjoyable. Earth, Wind & Fire's Verdine White produced the LP with Robert Wright and, not surprisingly, there's a definite EWF influence on "Happy for Love," "Tell Me Why," and other tracks. But that isn't to say that Pockets was an outright clone of EWF – as much as its members admired EWF, Pockets had a recognizable sound of its own. Anyone playing Take It on Up next to an EWF album would have no problem telling the bands apart. Unfortunately for Pockets, this LP didn't contain any major singles and was only a modest seller.

By the time Pockets recorded its third and final album So Delicious, Columbia was feeling frustrated – a band that was supposed to be "the next Earth, Wind & Fire" had never made it any higher than number 17 on Billboard's R&B singles chart and had yet to enjoy a real blockbuster smash. Although Pockets had a small following, supergroup status eluded the Baltimore residents. Pockets' admirers hoped that So Delicious would be the group's big commercial breakthrough, but the LP was only a modest seller. While Come Go With Me remains Pockets' best and most essential release, So Delicious is generally decent – not mind-blowing, but decent. EWF's Verdine White (a brother of Maurice White) produced So Delicious with Robert Wright, which is why the strong EWF influence on "How Do You Think It Feels," "Your Heart's in Trouble," and the single "Catch Me" (which hints at "Boogie Wonderland") should come as no surprise. Even on a cover of the Delfonics' "La La (Means I Love You)," EWF's influence asserts itself. But it isn't like Pockets is going out of its way to emulate EWF; rather, the EWF influence is only one element of the band's overall sound. So Pockets didn't suffer from a lack of originality – that wasn't the problem. Pockets' problem was the lack of a major hit, and when this LP didn't sell, the band ended up calling it quits.
