People’s Artist of Russia, professor, ex-dean of the Piano Department of Moscow conservatory 1997-2000. Yuri Slessarev was born in 1947. He graduated from the Central Music School attached to Moscow Conservatory in 1966.Yuri Slessarev studied under the guidance of Maestro Victor Merzhanov at Moscow Conservatory. His natural gift and virtuoso qualities have been exhibited in many competitions. He became the Gold Medal Winner of the All Union Competition of the USSR held in Estonia in 1969. Yuri Slessarev won the International Competition in Montevideo (Uruguay). His professional concert career began quickly thereafter Slesarev performs nearly all the virtuoso repertoire written for piano, including the works of Bach, Beethoven, Brams, Schubert, Schumann, Rachmaninoff, Debussy, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and many more. Numerous performances were a great success in England, Germany, Italy, South America, the United States of America, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Republic of Corea, Cuba, Japan, republics of the former Soviet Union etc. The El Pais newspaper (Montevideo, Ururgvai) reported: “Yuri Slesarev brought to performance a poetical sincerity, with both innocence and dipness paired with nobility and great style”. The Journal of Music Life (Miscow, Russia) wrote of Mr. Slesarev: “His presentation was filled with lyrical romantism very distinctive with a deep understanding of the composers intent…complete professional perfection”. Master Classes International, Inc 1999: “Maestro Slesarev made his United States debut in 1997 in San-Francisco. A return engagement was immediately arranged for 1998. Currently Mr. Slesarev is the Dean of the Piano Department of the Moscow Tchaikovsky conservatoire. Maestro Slesarev will be a guest artist-lecturer for the Master Classes International week of “Virtuoso” events to benefit music education in Los Angeles and Southern California. He will perform in a free education concert sponsored by Master Classes International? Inc. for children from the Los Angeles Unified School District, and will lead Master classes focusing especially on Chopin Etudes and Rachmaninoff in Los Angeles and in Orange Country on February 19”.
