Mux Mool - Skulltaste (2010)

Mux Mool's Skulltaste is a sprawling epic of an album, darting between genres with a rapacious hunger for new beats and genre-mashing electronics. This torrid sequence takes in Flying Lotus style hip hop one moment ('Hog Knuckles', 'Dandelion') and garish neon disco ('Enceladus') the next, taking in brilliantly crafted synthcore instrumentals along the way. The laser beam melodies and vocoded jumble of 'Death 9000' sound a little like a hi-fi take on the sort of Betamax-chewing new wave of someone like Dylan Ettinger, while other highlights tread a very different path - 'Morning Strut' has its foundations in good old fashioned sampling, while 'Crackers' goes all out for cartoonish, yammering techno complete with over-compression and gaudy synth arpeggios. All this, plus the digital edition comes with five bonus tracks….
