Mendelssohn was only 16 when he wrote the Oktett op. 20, one of the most impressive pieces of chamber music. The version for piano 4 hands was intended for performance by Felix and his sister Fanny who were both famous piano virtuosos of their time.

The virtuosos in this first-ever recording, Begoña Uriarte and Karl-Hemann Mrongovius, capture this technically and musically challenging work splendidly and make this CD a reference recording. They recently released the 2 concertos for two pianos and orchestra by the same Mendelssohn which was given a rating of 9 out of 10 in the French magazine Répertoire.
