After a week of teasing fans with a countdown to their new song “Fatal Illusion,” thrash mainstays Megadeth have finally given the fans what they’ve been waiting for. The band have been slow to unveil details about the yet-to-be-titled album, but the music is what’s the most important. The song begins with some scratchy pick scrapes and some disharmony to set the gritty mood before Dave Ellefson gets the spotlight. He eventually gives way to the rest of the band and that unmistakable Megadeth sound. The new lineup sounds fresh and ready to start another chapter in the ongoing book of one of thrash’s luminaries. Dave Mustaine‘s layered voice brings some aggression as he is backed by fret-frenzied guitar work and the chops of Lamb of God skinsman Chris Adler. “Fatal Illusion” has everything any fan of the band could ever hope for, highlighting Mustaine’s knack for finding skilled musicians to back his revered musical ambitions. With Mustaine and Ellefson representing the core of the band, they found ample replacements for axeman Chris Broderick and drummer Shawn Drover in Angra‘s six-stringer Kiko Loureiro and the aforementioned Adler. Despite the lineup change, Megadeth are looking straight ahead in 2015 as they have their eyes set on a new release either late this year or early next as they’ve hinted at previously. Until the new album comes out, fans should be content playing “Fatal Illusion” until the figurative grooves wear out. Sometimes there’s an untold glory about the digital age. Instead of wearing it out, more plays are only sure to make this song better!Musicians:
