Next to the widely acclaimed analogue Mahler-cycle of Haitink with his Concertgebouw Orchestra, Haitink re-recorded the 4th and 7th symphony at the start of the digital era in the 80's. The recording of the 7th is of the best quality: the recording is perfectly balanced as is the entire orchestra. In this particular recording the principal windplayers are in top-form. Worth mentioning are the 1st horn (Julia Studebaker, wow!) and the tenor-tuba (Jacques Banens); both of their performances have yet to be surpassed. If you are looking for a top-notch recording of this symphony, look no further.
