Jens Lodén - Automatismism (2006) {Ajabu!} **[RE-UP]**

Dischi come questo dello svedese Jens Lodén, membro della band Reunion (qualche gustosa produzione per la Sonarkollektiv) e artefici di alvcuni 12" molto apprezzati da ascoltatori con padiglioni fini, non se ne sentivano da tempo. Nella speranza che non si tratti dell'ennesima meteora e che segua uno sforzo distributivo e promozionale maggiore di quanto sia stato profuso per altre chicche del genere (che fine ha fatto Forss?), questo suo debutto ufficiale viene pubblicato dalla svedese Ajabu! (che confessiamo di non aver mai sentito prima…).

Fatta salva la stravaganza del titolo (giustificato dallo stesso Jens Lodén col fatto che "Automatism non bastava"!), questo lavoro mostra l'abilita' del suo artefice nel dosare la programmazione (e in piu' in generale nell'arrangiamento) con un'indefinita vena improvvisativa unita ad una buona capacità di palleggiare basslines, grooves e partiture ritmiche, combinati ad interventi vocalici soul-jazz e inframezzi strumentali dell'abile Per "Texas" Johansson al sax tenore (vera e propria eclampside della traccia introduttiva Resistance, che ricorda certe divagazioni jazzistiche di Dj Krush) e al clarinetto (valore aggiunto nell'eidetico groove di So Far) risultando in un sound a dir poco eclettico, che sembra voler separare la farina dalla crusca almeno in fatto stilistico. L'atmosfera generale del disco razzumaglia tra certe percezioni borderline-nichiliste ricavando uplifter midtempo, se non addirittura downbeat (puo' sembrare quasi una contraddizione, ma sic est!), trabaltando -e' il caso di dirlo- certi automatismi o stereotipi della composizione, talvolta ironizzandoci sopra in maniera semplice ma efficace (come in Valuable, in cui una voce da documentario associa la categoria del "comfortable" con quella del "valuable", su un'equorea successione di suoni, scratches e battute phunkster). Intrigante anche certo grooving piu' marcatamente downbeat e cinefilo, quale quello espresso nell'"aspergeriana" Red Words o nella briosa The New Angle e affascinante la piu' "escapist" delle tracce, la finale Anti Contradiction. Disco breve, conciso e davvero ben costruito!

Jens Loden, well knowned for the electronica audience from several releases and 12`` with the band Reunion (Sonar Kollektiv), are now presenting his first album Automatismism in his own name at the up and coming label ajabu! from Sweden. During the work with his new album Jens had a headline for what he was doing: Automatism is not enough. Automatism means action without deliberately and consciously controlling what you are doing. The made up word Automatismism subsequently could be explained as relating to automatism.

On the album he deals with the contrasts between the possible presiceness in arranging music (programming in particular) and the variability of improvisation. The contrast and balance between static repeating and change. All arranged into groovy flows of rhythms, bassplaying, programming, improvisations and the very special electric eclectic sound-world of Jens Loden. Guest appearances by Per Texas Johansson and New York-cellist Noah Hoffeld. Jens is a very versatile and talented bassplayer, producer, composer, keyboard player, arranger, sound engineer with much experience from aswell working with jazz-musicians as producing electronic music. Some might remember him as bassplayer in Agurk Players in the early nineties. For the Scandinavian audience he is well acclaimed for example by the cooperation with saxophone player Per Texas Johansson on the album Holon (EMI), who was all remixed and produced by Jens Loden, the album was nominated for best jazz-album in the Swedish Grammy awards 2001 and also from Damn`s latest album Youth Style (Raw Fusion), where he play the bass. He is featured on several compilations around the world such as: Do you copy? (Mitek), Seiji Remixes (Bitasweet), Fueled for the Future (Compost), Jimpster remixes (Freerange), Future Tropic (OM) and more. Lately Jens have also produced smashing remixes for Universal Poplab, Sofi Hellborg feat.Tony Allen (ajabu!) and been praised by HÃ¥kan Lidbo and Andreas Tilliander in their radioshow on Swedish National radio.
