Ian Gillan - Magic (1982) [2007, Air Mail Archive, AIRAC-1392] / AvaxHome

Right before his adventure in Black Sabbath, and right after the half studio-half live "Double trouble", Ian Gillan released one of his best albums, this "Magic" from 1982, which is my favourite Gillan disc so far.

Featuring Janick Gers, of future Iron Maiden fame on guitars, "Magic" is full of great tunes, and in my opinion, this is the most inspired Ian's solo LP: already the side one includes three great tracks: "Bluesy blue sea", "Long gone" and "Driving me wild": the price of admission is paid.

But the great task goes on in the side two: the theatrical and long "Demon driver", "Living a lie"; the upbeat and great "You're so right" and a fine cover of Stevie Wonder's "Living for the city" build, in the end, an excellent album, varied and absolutely fun to listen to.

I used to own the tape, and during a certain moment of my life played it practically every day, side after side after side; so the sentimental factor must be considered here: don't believe me so much if I say this is excellent, I can be a bit biased…but certainly believe me if I say this "Magic" is cool, fresh and has fantastic songs.
