1988's Forcefield II: the Talisman is the second release by guitarist Ray Fenwick and drummer Cozy Powell (Black Sabbath, Rainbow, just about every other band). For the Talisman album they are joined by Jan Akkerman (Focus) and vocalist Tony Martin, who would later join Powell in Black Sabbath.
Forcefield II: the Talisman is a melodic rock album that mixes original material with a few well done covers. The band once again pays tribute to the Kinks (Tired of Waiting) and Deep Purple (Black Night/Strange Kind of Woman), as well as covering Carrie (by Cliff Richard, not Europe). Given the players involved, it's not surprising that the musicianship on this album is first rate. The beautiful instrumental version of I Lose Again that closes out the album is proof of that. The vocals are quite strong as well. I'm a big fan of the Tony Martin Black Sabbath albums, so I know what a great metal singer he is. This album proves he can handle melodic rock as well. ~Amazon
