Any cd which starts out with Blues Power featuring Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown on vocals, Eric Clapton on guitar, and Leon Russell playing piano and doing vocals is worth a listen to. Long Way Home continues to impress with every track. Brown demonstrates his musical skills, and careful choice of music. His all star cast includes Clapton, Russell, Ry Cooder, John Loudermilk (who wrote Tobacco Road and does the vocals on the cd)Sonny Landreth and Maria Muldaur. Great tracks besides Blues Power are Don't Think Twice with Maria Muldaur doing vocals with Gatemouth, Mean and Evil with Leon Russell sharing the stage with Gatemouth and of course Tobacco Road. This is a great cd for a blues or rock fan.

Ok I purchased this CD based upon the real cool, shall we say iconic cover photo. I mean here is the neat looking guy in a fancy country and western shirt smoking a pipe sitting on the back end of a candy-apple red vintage coupe. The CD had to be good!

Seriously it was good, very good. In addition to the talented Clarence Gatemouth Brown (1925-2005) it features a terrific lineup of musicians and singers: Eric Clapton, Ry Cooder, Leon Russell, John D. Loudermilk, Bobby Charles, Maria Muldaur and others.

Take a good look at the songs on this album and imagine if you will how great they must sound with Brown, Clapton, Cooder, Muldaur etc participating. Why, you may want to just rush out and purchase a copy - you will not be disappointed.

Just for the record the album was recorded in 1995 in Maurice, Louisiana.

Perpetually eclectic multi-instrumentalist Gatemouth Brown goes the glitzy guest star route on this diverse set, much in the manner of John Lee Hooker's last few releases. Unfortunately, that means it sports less of Brown's Texas-bred guitar and fiddle mastery than any of his previous albums. Eric Clapton inserts an exceedingly generic guitar solo on "Blues Power" (where Brown duets with frog-voiced Leon Russell), Maria Muldaur shares microphone time with Brown on an entirely unwarranted revival of Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice" (Clapton returns with more tired licks), and Ry Cooder's mandolin surrounds Brown's sawing violin on a country-tinged "Dockside Boogie." A handful of solo acoustic items add depth, while the swinging instrumental "The Blues Walk" (featuring wailing sax from Grady Gaines) and a lowdown "Somebody Else" should appeal to Brown's longtime blues followers.
