The cycle "24 Preludes" was conceived by F. Chopin in 1831 when the composer in response to the news about the defeat of the Polish uprising wrote two preludes — in A minor and D minor. The cycle was completed in January 1839. These years can be considered the period of maturity and significant spiritual and psychological evolution of the composer.
Chopin created a profound and passionate confession of what he had gone through. This is something more general and remote than just a piano cycle (a brilliant cycle though!) Naturally, one can endlessly admire the melodic gift of the composer, his perfect professional technique, richness of harmony—through in this case we pay tribute only to the composer's "hearing" which is not of primary importance here, it comes second. One should acknowledge as primary in Preludes the stunning human "seeing" of time, exquisitely felt through and what is more important — keenly intelligent.
At the age of twelve A. Scriabin got acquainted with the works of Chopin — and through the whole life he had kept spiritual affinity and love for the great Polish composer. The similar cycle by A. Scriabin "24 Preludes", Op. 11 was induced by the piano cycle of F. Chopin. The cycle created in 1895 locks in itself those thoughts and emotions which are transformed, which gain philosophical comprehension in the composer's later works.
Igor Zhukov graduated from the Moscow Conservatoire in 1960 (piano class of Professor H. Neuhaus). The pianist is a laureate of the International M. Long Competition in Paris (1957). He is widely known in the Soviet Union and abroad appearing with concerts as a soloist, in ensembles.
