Cathedral's debut demo, In Memorium has more than a clue about Cathedral's music. Being one of the milestones of stoner/doom and doom/death genre, this demo introduces a very dark and doomy atmosphere, emphasized with a raw and ugly sound instead of gothic melodies and symphonic instruments. Lee Dorian's Death Metal / Crust Punk background is clearly reflected by strong death metal and rock 'n roll (stoner) elements in the songs. And all of these factors are perfectly synthesized and balanced in all four songs.Cathedral official homepage
Dorian's original demonic vocal style is another thing that gives this demo a cult status. It's a bit hard to get used to his unusual style, at first. But as I listen the demo time to time, I couldn't fit another style of vocal to that kind of original music.
Recent doom bands have much to learn from Cathedral's original style in early 90's that forms the modern stoner doom sound from older heavy doom style. And this 30 minutes of puked agony summarizes it all.
