"The Day Death Died!"

The Grandmaster usurps the power of Death and challenges the Avengers to battle his Legion of the Unliving for the life of the universe, a battle that only Captain America and Hawkeye survive; but Hawkeye tempts the Grandmaster into a rigged game of chance, distracting the villain long enough for Death to free herself and expel the Grandmaster from her realm, restoring the Avengers to life as a reward for their efforts. The Grandmaster is secretly satisfied with this outcome, though, since Death has barred Grandmaster and his fellow Elders of the Universe from her realm lest they threaten her again; as such, the Grandmaster and his fellows are at last truly immortal.

Avengers Assembled: Thor, Iron Man, Doctor Pym, Wasp, Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Knight III, Wonder Man, Tigra, She-Hulk, Captain Marvel II, Mockingbird, Doctor Druid, Moon Knight (provisional member).
