Robin Gates is back with part 1 of a new series on wood boring. In the first installment, he looks at a variety of hand methods that can be employed and admits to a grudging admiration for woodworm! And if you like making projects for your grandchildren, then you’ll love Ian Wilkie’s stable block build, which is perfect for the budding equestrian! We also have a great kitchen project from James Brolly, or if you want to make something a little more challenging, check out Dominic Collings’ nest of fine oak tables.
The Editor also brings us part 2 of his wardrobe build tech, which sees him complete glue-up and take a step back before the final paint job is applied, and he also finds time to consider the subject of woodworking safety and the perils of unguarded machines.
Taking advantage of a warm spring day, Andy King ventures over to Dover to visit the premises of ‘the woodturning people’ – long-established family business Stiles and Bates; and in ‘Timeslip’, Peter Baker discusses the intricacies of sharpening tools and how he was taught to ‘do it properly’ – lessons that have stayed with him until this day.
In turning and carving, Colin Simpson takes us through the steps for making his ‘Nebula’ bowl before Bernard Greatrix shows that with a handful of tools and a little imagination, woodcarving can enhance your projects.
In ‘Archive’ we take a look at a refrigerator build from 1952 and we also have all your favourite pages, including our timber directory, readers’ letters and AOB and diary, as well as tests on Veritas’ tapered snug plug cutters, Triton’s 12V drill & driver set and the Charnwood BS350 Premium bandsaw.
All this and more in our September issue, which is on sale 5 August.
