On the freshwater front
The year is still young, filled with prospects of adventure and angling places waiting to be discovered. Neville Barnard realised his dream by taking on the monster barbel in the Lower Orange River – an unforgettable experience! Read more about it in “Oranjerivier se monsters”. Kobus Hermitage also discovered a jewel during a visit to Bosparadys near Hartbeespoort Dam. There are comfortable cabins, anglers are safe and they can even do some game viewing. Jolene van Greunen gives advice about what to look out for when visiting new angling waters to target carp.

In his column, “Rohan’s Fly Diary”, Rohan Koegelenberg discusses the behaviour and life cycle of the mayfly. He explains to fly-fishing enthusiasts how to adjust their fly presentation to outwit the yellowfish of the Vaal River. Eben Dowd is an expert at tying flies. In this issue he shares his secret of how to tie the perfect fly when targeting grunter in tidal rivers and lagoons. In “Tackle Up!”, Andries Maree and specialist angler Barry Grove provide handy tips on fishing tackle for anglers intending to do some deep-water cranking for bass at Albert Falls Dam.

Rock and surf
Sea anglers can look forward to another kayak angling adventure from the pen of Manie Combrinck. We also report on the Gam 1000 Angling Competition that has been hosted for the past 29 years by the Gamtoos Angling Club on the Gamtoos River.

Competitions
The LTB Protea team did South Africa proud with their excellent achievement in the EFSA Boat & Line Class Championships held from 16-23 September 2016 in Ireland.
All this and much more in this month’s issue of Stywe Lyne / Tight Lines – the angler’s friend.
