Coal Power India
India’s energy policy is at a crossroads, as India looks to move ahead from its huge energy dependency on coal and oil, both fossil fuel sources, as the world is beginning to shift towards meeting emission reduction targets to combat climate change. Coal and oil, being fossil fuels, produce much more greenhouse gases than cleaner energy sources. The government has major plans to expand its energy generation capacities in other fields of energy sources such as nuclear energy and renewable sources such as solar energy, that have the potential to allow India to reduce its net greenhouse gas emissions. With these in mind, we explore various alternative sources of energy in this issue, and also scrutinize India’s coal dependency, which is the need of the hour.
