Our Cover story for this month, ‘Chabahar: India’s Strategic Gateway on Fast Track’ takes a look at the Chabahar port and India’s developmental efforts in the region. While analysts believe that that the presence of Chinese and Indian military in these ports will increase Sino-Indian rivalry, there are other expectations that Chabahar will diminish the importance of Gwadar port as a transit hub for Central Asian republics. These and other contingencies will have to be factored in by India, Iran and Afghanistan while progressing in the region.

It took many negotiations, diplomacy, some cajoling and coaxing to bring China to understand what’s best for it on the Doklam standoff.
