Cruising Heights' June 2018 issue details how far the government's promise to make the Aam Aadmi fly is from reality with only 15 per cent of the total 453 routes awarded to various airline and helicopter operators taking off. Given the present scenario: lack of infrastructure, many airports still awaiting required approvals and airlines still huffing over the approvals to start operations, the fate of the UDAN initiative still hangs in doubt - this, after a year the scheme was unveiled.
Even so, UDAN has brought cheer for manufacturers of smaller aircraft, particularly ATR, Bombardier and Embraer, all angling for a share of the market. Also, there is a one-on-one with CEO of WOW air, an airline that has managed to capture fliers with its jaw dropping prices. Plus: a report on Jet Airways plans to set up a mini hub at Guwahati and the challenges that come with it; app-based heli-taxi services in India, and in the cargo section, IGIA awarded a pilot project to review and rate cargo services. Plus: all the regular features.
