Just one baton flourish away from Orchestral-Pop perfection. Paul Ryan's dazzling ambitious music, packed with dizzy key and tempo changes, has a very beautiful, distinct turn of chord and Johnny Arthey's huge and equally bold arrangements leap and bound about the orchestral palette entirely sympathetically. Best of all the voice at the front of this lovely mayhem was not of the mature, velvet variety so often heard fronting such extravaganzas but husky, impish and sexy as hell. The devil-may-care bravado of Barry Ryan's boyish vocal technique sets it apart from other such ambitious soundscapes, tearing up any potential pomposity accusation with its rough and ready humanity. Rough, ready and pretty as a picture! Blackmore4, rateyourmusic.com
