Patriot Dark is your standard bullet hell vertical shooter. You have 2 ships to choose from, one with a narrow, straight shot (named Suika) and one with a wide shot (called Moruten). They both have their own sub-weapons too. Suika shoots a laser forward and Moruten shots enemy seeking orbs. You have unlimited credits, 3 lives per credit and 3 bombs per life. The bombs you can, of course, obtain from enemies too.

Control
C = rapid fire
Z = shoots normal shots,

The gameplay, however s a bit complicated as there is a lot happening. Enemies drop 2 kinds of orbs, blue orbs are dropped when you destroy enemies using your normal shots or a bomb. And green orbs which are dropped when you destroy enemies whith your sub weapon, the bullets shot by your enemies that are still on the screen will turn into the orbs when you kill them.. Your sub weapon operates with the energy bar that you can see at the bottom-left side of the screen, when you run out of energy your weapon turns red, you can still kill enemies but they won't drop the green orbs, which give you extra points. To fill your energy bar you must obtain blue orbs. This makes you alternate between your normal weapon and sub-weapon to obtain the maximum score possible. It is not a hard system to get used to, but gives a new level of depth to the gameplay. There is also a combo system, the combo level rises everytime you kill an enemy, but will drop to 0 if you aren't hitting an enemy for a short period of time.
