Power Unlimited: The Corruption of Union Leadership

America is in danger-not so much from without as from within. The threat from Soviet Russia, serious as it is, need not panic us so long as our free institutions survive, for the freedom which has made us strong will, if preserved, make us stronger still. Our danger lies basically in the abandonment of our main strength-the principle of freedom under law. More immediately, it lies in the excessive power and special privileges of the big unions. Exploiting those privileges to form socially abusive industry-wide monopolies which they incorrectly call trade unions, the union leaders have brought about a state of affairs so menacing as to demand the immediate attention of all citizens and their representatives in Congress.
