The Prisoner of Blackwood Castle by Ron Goulart

This book actually falls more under the "Sherlock Holmes" or "Wild Wild West" genre than sci-fi. It's pure Goulart, though, in that it's written with a wry tongue-firmly-embedded-in-cheek. Goulart is always a delightful light read.
