Description

This course is designed for kids grade k-5th grade to learn basic ukulele skills.  It was made with the idea that a non-musical parent or adult could learn alongside the child.  Music brings people together.  Kids 3rd-5th grade could probably do this course by themselves with minimal help from parents, but I recommend playing with your child- it's a fun bonding activity! Each lesson is about 2-4 minutes long with material to practice while singing fun songs. All the skills should be able to be mastered over the course of one to two months depending on how much you practice.  Practicing at least 2-3x a week will ensure the skill are not forgotten. This course covers a short history of the ukulele, how to tune the instrument, how to hold and strum the instrument properly, 2 chords, 4 songs using those two chords, and a little bit on how to read tabs (uke music). Each lesson is short and clear and you will leave knowing how to go about learning more as you continue playing with ukulele. You will have the basic skills to tune your uke,  read chord charts and basic tabs.I have been teaching music for over 10 years and leading a local ukulele club for young kids for the past 5 years. Through this, I have learned some accommodations to make things easier for littler fingers. There are options in this course depending on the age and fine motor skills of your child.I advise you put Akila kids strings on your ukulele before taking this course. (Your local music shop can do this for you, or it is not too difficult with a videos tutorial on youtube). These colored strings make learning so much easier. I recommend purchasing dolphin Makala ukes, or penguin ukuleles. I use these two brands in my ukulele club-they are relatively inexpensive, they sound good for their price point, play easily, and are very durable.  Some less expensive brands are more difficult to play and tune. The whole video course is close captioned.
