Go from clueless to crocheting in 7 easy steps!

What you'll learn

Hold and maneuver a crochet hook

Tie a slip knot

Crochet a chain

Recognize and create single, double, half double, and treble crochet stitches

Tie off and finish your project

Requirements

No crochet experience required - these are the very first steps to learning!

You'll need yarn - for beginners, worsted weight or double knit yarn is a great place to start. That'll be labelled "medium," "4," or "dk." If you can't find that, it's okay! Any yarn will work.

Bring a crochet hook that's appropriately sized for the yarn you have. If you're using worsted weight or double knit weight, you should be using a crochet hook that is 5.5mm, 6mm, or 6.5mm (sometimes labeled with the letters I, J, or K)

Scissors will be needed for the last section of this course. Sharp scissors will be a good tool for your crochet kit!

A darning needle will also be needed in the last section of this course. Most darning needles come in a set with various sizes - this is another great tool for your crochet kit!

Description

Learning to crochet is easier than you think! These simple building blocks will allow you to crochet basic projects like scarves, washcloths, blankets, and more. What's more - the skills you learn in this foundational course will provide a solid starting point for advancing your crochet abilities, allowing you to progress to more complicated stitches and patterns with ease. What differentiates this course from others? I am certified to teach crochet via the Craft Yarn Council.I use slow, deliberate videos with close-up views of my hands in order to demonstrate the concepts I'm teaching. I don't assume you know anything about crocheting or handling yarn, so I break down every step so it's easy to understand, even for complete beginners. I pair each video demonstration with a written document explaining what you've learned, as well as the written pattern and diagram information for each stitch.I also offer online one-on-one lessons via Zoom. If you get stuck, you can book a lesson with me and we'll work through it.After taking this course, you will be able to:Make a slip knot (I demonstrate three different methods)Crochet a chain to start your projectRecognize and create single, double, half-double, and treble crochet stitchesRead crochet patterns and diagrams that use shorthand and symbols for each of these stitchesTie off your work when you finish crocheting a projectSew your yarn ends into your project so they can't be seen
