Following more than forty years as a frequent visitor, Norman Buckley has lived in the Lake District since 1990, indulging his enthusiasm for this unique area, its history and its landscape. For the past ten years he has been a prolific writer of guide books of various kinds; this is his fourth and much the most comprehensive Lake District guide, previous books having concentrated on routes for walkers and the exploration of towns and villages. In partnership with his wife June, Norman has also written several books linking recommended walks and tea shops in various parts of Britain, with more to come. He is a keen environmentalist, holding post-graduate diplomas in Environmental Management and in Lake District Studies from the Universities of Liverpool and Lancaster respectively.
