This practical guide to product and process engineering of various aluminum castings emphasizes process and material characteristics; product-process-alloy integration; manufacturing aspects of aluminum casting; product design features; tooling design, feeding and gating design; product quality needs and specifications; product launches; and successful conversions of aluminum from steel and iron. This book is intended to be a standard guide for practical foundry personnel in aluminum die casting, gravity permanent mold casting, and low pressure permanent mold casting. It is also a beneficial reference for casting buyers and students specializing in metal casting technology. It includes extensive examples, tables, and practical guidelines and links functionality and manufacturability, benefiting both product designers and casting process engineers

About the Author
As a mechanical, metallurgical, and materials engineer by profession, Jagan Nath has contributed to the advancement of the casting industry. He became the Vice President of Advanced Engineering of Amcast Automotive, a division of Amcast Industrial Corporation, MI, and later, the Vice President of Engineering of General Aluminum Manufacturing Company, MI. He has contributed significantly to automotive vehicle mass reduction through many conversions to aluminum from iron and steel and pioneered the successful application of the low pressure process to safety critical suspension components. He has guided several teams of engineers in product-process development and problem solving of iron, steel, and aluminum castings in a variety of industries for over four decades. The author s unique and pioneering ideas implemented in gravity and low pressure permanent molding earned him the Technology Leadership Award from Amcast Industrial Corporation and the Merton C. Flemings Award for innovation from Advanced Casting Research Center, MA
