This book is primarily targeted at the personal and small business markets that often do not have staff dedicated towards data protection and preservation. Please take that into account as you read this introduction to data preservation. Often I remember the quote I heard from a mentor who stated, “You cannot place a value on the data and related information you can loose.” Data loss, either accidentally or deliberately, has crushed the finances of individuals and businesses both large and small.
We, myself included, have periodically become lackadaisical about information protection, which can come home to roost before it bites us almost always at the worst time.
