The Stand is a Marvel Comics adaptation of Stephen King's epic novel of the same name. It will ultimately consist of thirty issues divided into five story arcs. The Stand: Captain Trips is the title of the first story arc, published from September 10, 2008 to January 28, 2009.
The end is nigh as a deadly plague sweeps the nation and widespread panic overcomes the dying masses of America in a terrifying and inexorable tide. Who will be left to rebuild on the ruins of their past lives as the ancient rivalry of Good versus Evil has only just begun? Based on the popular apocalyptic novel by celebrated author Stephen King, The Stand brings together critically acclaimed writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Secret Invasion: Fantastic Four, Sensational spider-Man, Angel: Revelations, HBO's ) and the gritty visuals of artist Mike Perkins (Captain America) to tell a tale that begins at the end of the world. -- () - CBR | 32 Pages | 17.8 MB It begins here: the apocalyptic epic battle between good and evil based on the classic bestseller by master of horror Stephen King! On a secret army base in the Californian desert, something has gone horribly, terribly wrong. Something that will send Charlie Campion and his wife and daughter fleeing in the middle of the night. Unfortunately for the Campion family--and the rest of America--they are unaware that all three of them are carrying a deadly cargo: A virus that will spread from person to person like wildfire, triggering a massive wave of disease and death, prefacing humanity's last stand! - CBR | 32 Pages | 25.9 MB Stephen King's horror epic continues in this issue as the unseen killer, the super-flu Captain Trips, spreads across the entire country, a tide of disease and death. Meanwhile, in Atlanta, in the Center for Disease Control, the US government has taken a keen interest in Stuart Redman, who seems to be the only person immune to the Captain Trips infection. They are determined to find out why--with or without Stu's cooperation. And what do the recurring nightmares Stu's been having--about a dark man with red eyes standing in a cornfield--mean? Plus: Frannie Goldsmith and her father! Larry Underwood in New York! And Nick Andros takes a wrong turn in Shoyo, Arkansas! - CBR | 35 Pages | 30.5 MB Ever-evolving and ever-deadly, the superflu "Captain Trips" continues to spread across the country, affecting even such far-flung lost souls as Larry Underwood in New York and Frannie Goldsmith in Maine. As rumors about chemical warfare and bubonic plague start seeping into the media, the actions of the American government begin to devolve, legal systems local and global start to break down, and two reckless outlaws--Lloyd Henreid and Poke Freeman--decide to take advantage of the situation, cutting a path of destruction through the American southwest. It's murder and mayhem, Stephen King-style, in the third chapter of this epic struggle between good and evil! - CBZ | 33 Pages | 15.2 MB The first volume of Marvel's adaptation of the Stephen King horror epic draws to its conclusion! For Larry Underwood, Nick Andros, and Frannie Goldsmith, the deadly superflu has immediate--and devastating--consequences, striking down people near and dear to their hearts. Meanwhile, outlaw Lloyd Henreid gets some grim news from his attorney and General Starkey is relieved of his duties--in the most definitive way possible. And somewhere far away, but getting closer, the Walkin' Dude is making his presence known... - CBR | 35 Pages | 29.1 MB The violently contagious superflu Captain Trips has now encompassed the entire country in its deadly embrace and there’s no turning back. America is rapidly becoming a country of the sick...the dead...the damned. Against that ever-darkening backdrop, Randall Flagg, the Walking Dude, the Dark Man, at long last saunters into this, the climactic chapter of the first volume of Marvel's acclaimed adaptation of Stephen King's horror classic.
