The Fires of Askell (Les Feux D'Askell) is a 3-volume fantasy-adventure graphic novel series written by Christophe Arleston and drawn by Jean-Louis Mourier and published by Soleil in 1993, 1994 and 1995 respectively. It's got action, charm and humor to spare, woven together by the sumptuous, detailed, granular artwork of Mourier. The quality of the graphics is such that release of an expected fourth book has been delayed because of other work by the artist and because of his refusal to compromise. Bannered by the exotic and deadly heroine Cybil, The Fires of Askell is lush, textured and unabashedly graphic, sensual and explicit in its approach to the graphic novel genre, one that may surprise non-European sensibilities.
