The quartet of comic book creators mentioned above have since become cult legends and their work, as with most other underground comics published during that era, are light years ahead of their time--outrageous, irreverent and at unexpected moments, uproariously funny. Nearly 37 years before American comedian Bill Maher would take consistent stabs at organized religion, this comic exposes incongruous ironies and dualities about the target of its satire in ways that even Maher cannot, would never, dare to tread.
