is a fictional, American comic book jungle girl heroine, published originally by Fiction House. She was created by Will Eisner (of the Eisner Awards fame) and S.M. "Jerry" Iger of the comic-book packager Eisner & Iger, one of a handful of studio that produced comics on demand for publishers and syndicates at the time. Sheena possesses the ability to communicate with wild animals after having grown up with them since being orphaned in the jungle. She is quite proficient in fighting with knives, spears, and bows, and a variety of other makeshift weapons. She is the first female comic-book character with her own title, with her Spring 1942 premiere beating (Summer 1942) by three months. A distaff Tarzan, Sheena inspired a wealth of similar comic-book jungle queens. In 2007 Devil's Due Publishing (DDP) acquired the comic book rights to Sheena and began their run of the title. This post includes all the Sheena comics from DDP, plus an added bonus: the comic book anthology , published in 1999 by Paragon Publications featuring a compilation of some of the original Sheena stories issued during the 1940's and edited by Bill Black. The foreword alone by Bill Black and Bill Feret contains a wealth of information. Add to that the reprints of the original black-and-white Sheena stories and what you have is comics history.
