The word Heisei means "achieving peace" and refers to the Japanese era that began in 1989 with Emperor Akihito and culminated in 2019, ushering in a new era called Reiwa, led by his son, Emperor Naruhito. In the Heisei era, various elements such as fashion, arts and music were mixed, highlighting the accelerated development of Japanese youth and extravagant clothing. In general, this art has to do with the human relationship with nature, simplicity and decorative elements.
In this period is the work of Takato Yamamoto, Japanese poster artist and illustrator, born in Akita in 1960. His illustrations reflect a mixture of the Ukiyo era, late 19th century European art and the aforementioned Heisei art or aestheticism. He is considered a great draftsman of the Ukiyo-ePop culture.
His drawings are also part of the opposition group called Ero-guro, which arises due to the prejudices of the culture of Japan, the main qualities of which are the erotic, grotesque and absurd elements. Yamamoto's art is very specific: it involves the beauty of the female figure, subdued and contrasted colors in dark tones, infantilized faces, and symbolic elements of eroticism and terror; shows scenarios where he combines the setbacks of the downcast society.
