DMZ #42 (Ongoing)

is an American comic book series published by DC Comics under their Vertigo imprint. It is written by Brian Wood, with artwork by Wood and Riccardo Burchielli (the Italian artist's first comic book in the United States). The first issue was published on November 9, 2005. DMZ stands for demilitarized zone, which is Manhattan during the second American Civil War set in the near future, when the citizens of Middle America, collectively known as the Free States rose against the preemptive war policies of the U.S. government. In a battle at Allentown, Pennsylvania, the Free Armies won over the U.S. military and then laid siege upon New York, which brings us to the current state of affairs, a stalemate with neither side gaining ground and Manhattan itself, as described by series writer Brian Wood, being "equal parts , Fallujah and New Orleans right after Katrina." Issue #42 starts the three-part story arc, "No Future."
