It was designed to give readers an introduction to the CrossGen Universe by providing a few hints about the background of the CrossGen Universe through a conversation between two still unnamed characters. There never were plans for a sequel.

The Sampler was not intended for sale, but only to give retailers and their customers an idea of what CrossGen would be producing beginning with the first issues in May 2000. The Sampler contained the first few pages of each of the #1 issues.
