A discredited journalist reluctantly arrives in the small town of Vizhay, Russia following a new lead explaining the mysterious deaths of nine ski hikers in the Northern Ural Mountains. Soviet investigators determined only that "a compelling unknown force" had caused the deaths. What the journalist and his companions find will test their beliefs and the moral limits of journalism.
