Jessica Miriam Drew’s parents were Jonathan and Miriam Drew, two scientists whose work was dedicated to trying to harness the environmental adaptive abilities of spiders by grafting elements of their DNA into the human genome. Prior to Jessica’s birth, the pair moved to Wundagore Mountain to conduct their research with funding from HYDRA under the auspices of General Wyndham. While still an unborn child, Jessica gained superpowers when her mother's womb was hit by a laser beam containing the DNA traits of several different species of spiders. Jessica’s parents disappeared from her life under mysterious circumstances and she was subsequently raised on Mount Wundagore by a woman named Bova. Later, she was recruited into HYDRA under false pretenses and trained and mentored by Taskmaster to become an assassin in their employ.
